The Buena Vista Historic District was created in two segments- the Buena Vista Road area in 1977, followed in 1984 by the Mountain Road portion. A cohesive neighborhood since the late 18th century, these streets have figures prominently in West Hartford's history and growth. In the 18th century, Buena Vista Road was part of a principal route to the town of Farmington known as South Middle Road. This route predated Farmington Avenue, which was laid out around 1800.
